The Group owns 67.6% of Modern Terminals Limited, a leading operator of world-class container terminal services in the South China region. Modern Terminals was established in 1969. It built Hong Kong's first purpose-built container terminal in 1972.

Modern Terminals' operations in Kwai Ching are spreading over Container Terminals 1, 2, 5 and 9, with a total handling capacity of 7.0 million TEUs.

Through Modern Terminals, the Group is developing new container terminals in Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, as well as targeting other new projects along the China Coast. Existing investments include Chiwan Container Terminal, Shekou Container Terminals, Taicang International Gateway and Da Chan Bay Terminal One. It is expected that by 2012, half of Modern Terminals' throughput will be handled at existing investments in the Mainland.
